Suffragette Art Nouveau 9ct Gold'sweet Heart' Pendant & Chain, C1890's, Box

A TRULY STUNNING ART NOUVEAU PERIOD SUFFRAGETTE 9CT YELLOW GOLD'SWEET HEART' PENDANT & GOLD TONE CHAIN C1890S, PERIOD BOX. A CHARMING ANTIQUE JEWEL & THE PERFECT GIFT! The pendant is in the form of heart and has a lovely real amethyst cabochon. This pendant tests as 9ct, but is not marked, but is warranted as at least 9ct gold. The pendant is dressed in the classic Suffragette colours of white, peridot and amethyst.

The pendant is fitted with a fancy link yellow gold tone fine link chain which is not gold and is probably a later replacement. The pendant is presented in a period presentation box. This jewel is fine quality and is very wearable. This type of pendant is exceptionally rare todays market and were not available commercially in period, so many would have been adapted from period jewels by jobbing jewellers, resulting in some unusual designs and a large range of styles. This pendant is from an earlier period and would have been up to 10 years old when adapted and is of good quality, so a rare survivor? The glass stones featured are Peridot for Green, Amethyst for Violet, clear crystal for White, supposedly symbolizing the Suffragette movements mantra, Give Women the Vote? These colours were first adopted in C1900 and the colours represent G reen for Hope, W hite for purity and V iolet for dignity. Is a high quality Jewel and is charmingly styled with. In a classic Art nouveau'sweet heart' design. It is in yellow gold. Measures1.5 in length and is 0.5 wide. It is fitted with its original bale. The gold tone fancy link chain measures 18.0'' in length and has a good safety clasp. It has an outstanding period patina and has been well loved in the past. The box: is a period retailers presentation box in blue leatherette to the exterior and a good cream velvet pad and satin interior. It is in excellent vintage condition 2/3 and shows age related wear to the exterior, but the interior satin is a little foxed and the pad is well used.

It has a good hidden hinge and button clasp. This item is in vintage condition 1/2. There is no damage to any of the components apart from surface scratching and very minor chipping to the cabochon stone and larger glass crystals and some age related delamination to the metal work including minor marking to the metal, which does not detract from the items charm or wear ability. All of our jewellery is carefully cleaned and checked before sale.
