Georgian c. 1800 Ouroboros Snake Quizzing glass on 9CT Gold Muff chain 39 1/2
1800 Quizzing (reading, magnifying) glass. The glass mounted in chased with an Oak leaves and Acorns (symbol of strength, fertility and immortality) mount with Ouroboros design on the top. Ouroboros is an ancient symbol of serpent eating its own tail.
This symbol can be founded in many different cultures and symbolizes. The perpetual cyclic renewal of life and infinity, the concept of eternity and the eternal return, and represents the cycle of life, death and rebirth, leading to immortality, as in the Phoenix.
